East Palo Alto, CA
Designed to provide
permanent supportive housing for young people leaving foster
care system. The buildings’ contemporary design includes
overhanging shed roofs and elevated walkways braced by structural
members. Corrugated metal, horizontal siding, and fiber cement
panels and their bold colors create interest for residents.
The site plan places parking at the frontage as a buffer from
the street and creates space for a private courtyard for the
units. A large common area provides a community kitchen / dining
room, family room, computer lab, and laundry where tenants and
guests can socialize and study. The manager’s unit is
located close by across from the common area and adjacent to
the entry access to the apartments to provide control and visual
monitoring of the complex.
