on a 15 acre site in the Ewa Plain across the bay from Pearl Harbor,
Honolulu, this 192 unit affordable family housing project employs
a courtyard housing design. Each unit entry is located off a semi-public
enclosed courtyard where small children can play in a safe secure
area that is visible from the unit kitchens. Careful orientation
of the site design develops neighborhoods along an auto and pedestrian
circulation system that provides convenient access from the parking
areas to the unit, and a private zone around the bedroom areas.
The project elevations are designed with a Hawaiian style utilizing
indigenous building forms and materials including metal corrugated
roofing and windows with large openings to let the trade winds
bring a cooling breeze thru the unit.
